MoCA silicon market leader Entropic Communications says that it has now shipped 50 million pieces of MoCA version 1.0 and 1.1 silicon since 2007and claims that this includes 70% of the US pay TV market. It is currently being deployed by Verizon, DirecTV, Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Cox and Brighthouse. MoCA version 2.0 is now shipping.

The HomeGrid Forum and its Broadband Forum partner is saying that G.hn is here and working, after just four chip vendors turned up to its interoperability plugfest event last week - Lantiq, Marvell, Metanoia, and Sigma Designs. It has however not released any detail of the speed achieved or how much work there is to go before these products are ready for the market. Additional plugfests are being scheduled for later in the year. It seems a weak showing to us, although that may change if AT&T goes ahead and deploys the technology.

The Greek Government has exercised its option to force Deutsche Telekom to buy a further 10% of Greek telco Hellenic Telecom usually referred to as OTE. The deal will be for around 49 million OTE shares at a total cost of around €400 million, which is a 15% premium to the current share price. This was always worked into the purchase schedule since DT bought 30% back in 2008 and it will now lift its shareholding to 40%. The government and local investors own the rest.

Canadian broadband equipment provider Sandvine said today that it has won 12 new broadband service provider customers, spanning all geographic regions and access technologies. Sandvine won 25 new customers in the first half of fiscal 2011, and by comparison only won 26 new customers throughout all of 2010. Sandvine says that seven are wireless service providers, including a Top 100 wireless service provider and five are fixed line service providers, including two that are the largest broadband service providers in their country. Not sure why it couldn’t it just come out and tell us who they are.

LG Electronics stock fell dramatically this week when its CEO said the recovery of the handset business may take a while. Korean analysts have been saying for some time that LG would miss its promise to return to profit by the second quarter. The stock fell to the lowest it’s been in two years. LG has been promising that its new Android Optimus smartphones will turn the ship around, but now the TV unit is also struggling, burdened by high inventory.

Blinkx this week said that it has a blinkx app available on the OTT Roku player, a US Internet TV platform. The app is being sold in Roku's Channel Store and lets customers search, discover and view videos from blinkx's 18 million hours of professional indexed video. It has organized all this content into four channels with one each for sports, news, web content and a fun channel of bloopers, stunts, and pranks drawn from blinkx Beat
