Arc S

This year has already seen a few new additions to Sony Ericsson's Xperia range and now another has been added to the lineup at this year's IFA. The Xperia Arc S is basically a refresh of the Arc that was released earlier this year featuring the same design but with a few improvements on the inside. As with the other new members of Xperia family in 2011 the words dual-core and front-facing camera aren't in its dictionary but it's still got a few tricks up its sleeve.

Beneath the 4.2" TFT display beats a 1.4GHz single-core processor with 320MB of internal storage that is expandable with a microSD card up to 32GB, an 8GB card is included in the box. As with the previous Arc its star feature will be its 8.1mp camera with an Exmor R sensor that can capture HD video and can perform well in low light conditions. The battery is expected to last for around 7hr 30mins of talk time or for 6hrs 25mins of video playback.

An entertainment-centric phone the Xperia Arc S will allow users access to the "Music Unlimited" service with a catalogue of 10 million songs as well as "Video Unlimited" which offers a library of film and TV content, old and new, to download from all the major studios. These services are available in the US, UK and parts of Europe.

The Arc S also tries to muscle in on a bit of the popularity of 3D at the moment with a 3D sweep panorama feature, which takes 2D images and converts them to 3D images, which can be viewed on compatible TV sets.

There are no details on pricing yet but the Xperia Arc S will go on sale worldwide this October.
