Sprint's Galaxy SII sneaks into promo video

Clues point towards it being carrier's version of the handset

Android fans in the US may be tired of waiting for the Galaxy SII but a recently released promo video indicates that there isn't long left to wait for one of the best smartphones out there. In addition to emphasising how big the handset is there's a little easter egg at the end of video as eagle eyed viewers have spied what appears to be Sprint's verison of the Galaxy SII, the Epic Touch 4G.

The phone makes a very brief appearance at the end of the video but there are a few clues that give away its true nature. The main clue is the mention of "Kansas City" in the weather widget, which is where Sprint has its headquarters, and then there's the date on the calendar of 09/09 which the day the phone is rumoured to be released at the carrier. Finally the Sprint Visual Voicemail is also visible on the homescreen making it look certain that this is the carrier's variant of the popular handset.

Its name might have changed for Sprint but the specs remain the same and it will still feature the same 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There's also a front-facing 2mp camera for video calling and an 8mp snapper on the front.

A release date has yet to be confirmed but the Galaxy SII is widely believed to be arriving on August 29. Samsung has a launch event scheduled for then but has yet to reveal what it is it will be launching. A September 9 release at Sprint also looks like a possibility though using the date on the homescreen of a phone in a promotional image has proved an unreliable method of determining a device's release date in the past.
